Look In The Mirror
For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. (Psalms 36:9)
Thought For Today:
Did you look in the mirror before you left your home? I often find myself curious, wondering if some people realize how they appear when they leave home. Sometimes, I wish I could let them know what everyone else sees, like saying, “Excuse me, but your underclothing is showing,” or “Did you realize you’re in your pajamas?” I truly love everyone, but I can’t help but wonder about some of their choices. I remember the story of Alice in Wonderland, when the witch asked the mirror to tell her who was the fairest of them all. Sometimes I look in the mirror, and I see myself looking older.
The psalmist declared that with the Lord, there is a fountain of life. Because of this, we should all feel young, excited, and joyful—living an abundant, overflowing life. All we need to do is drink from this fountain, which offers refreshing and renewing waters of life. You won’t find true life outside of Christ. Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life.”
The Psalmist also said that in His light we can see light. If we never read the word of God, we can miss out on all the things God has for us. Notice, in the light we see light. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalms 119:105). “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple” (Psalms 119:130).
“In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world”(John 1:4-9). “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). When we look into the Word of God, we see God, because God is light. And it is that same light that will show us the ways of life with clarity.
